Jetted Tub Types Comparison
A jetted tub can create anything from a soft, effervescent bathing experience to a strong, targeted massage. The right system depends less on which option is considered best and more on what you want from the bath: gentle relaxation, forceful water massage, longer heat retention, low maintenance, or the flexibility to choose among several experiences.
The terms used to describe jetted tubs can make comparison difficult. Air jets and water jets work differently, a HydroSpa combines both systems, and a heated soaking tub maintains water temperature without providing a conventional jet massage. The chart below compares the bathing sensation, ideal use, maintenance needs, heat support, and added features of each system.
Jetted Tub Comparison Chart
| System | Bathing sensation | Best suited for | Cleaning and maintenance | Heat and added features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air-jetted tub | Gentle, widespread bubbling and a lighter massage | Relaxation, low-maintenance ownership, and bathers who dislike forceful water jets | Low. Our systems use non-return protection or an automatic purge to keep bathwater out of the air lines or remove residual moisture. | Does not maintain water temperature unless paired with a heater |
| Whirlpool water-jetted tub | Stronger, more targeted massage; many models offer zone control | Bathers who prioritize a deep, forceful massage | Highest of these options. The internal water system should be cleaned on the recommended schedule - generally about every three months for our tubs. | Optional ozone sanitation is available on many models; it supplements but does not replace cleaning |
| HydroSpa tub | Choice of gentle air bubbles, stronger water massage, or both | Bathers who want maximum flexibility and an immersive experience | Same routine as a water-jetted tub; the air system adds little additional maintenance | Includes an underwater chromotherapy light |
| Heated soaking tub | Quiet soaking with gentle water circulation, but no jet massage | Long baths, stable water temperature, and minimal maintenance | Low. Normal bathtub cleaning is generally sufficient for the systems we offer. | Concealed heater maintains already-warm water up to 104°F; it is not designed to heat a cold fill |
| AirSpa tub | Gentle air-jet massage combined with a longer hot soak | Bathers who want air jets plus strong temperature support without a whirlpool system | Low. No additional routine beyond normal bathtub cleaning is generally required for our systems. | Combines air jetting with a concealed water heater |
Quick takeaway: Choose air jetting for a gentler, lower-maintenance massage; water jetting for stronger, targeted massage; HydroSpa for both experiences; or a heated soaking or AirSpa system when maintaining water temperature is the priority.
Note: Available configurations and care instructions vary by model. Always follow the manual supplied with the tub.
