How Freestanding Acrylic Tubs Are Built

Acrylic accounts for roughly 85% of freestanding bathtubs sold today due to its durability, light weight, and heat retention. High-quality acrylic tubs rely on a dual-shell construction process designed to hold up to daily use without flexing or cracking:

  • Dual Vacuum-Formed Shells: Pure acrylic sheets are individually heat-formed into separate inner and outer shells.

  • Flex-Resistant Floor Core: A 3/4" thick structural support board is fiberglassed and resin-bonded to the basin floor to eliminate flexing when stepping in and out.

  • Fiberglass Reinforcement: Multiple applications of structural fiberglass and resin coat the interior surfaces of both shells to maximize rigidity.

  • Seamless Shell Fusion: Inner and outer shells are precision-bonded at the top lip using heavy-duty resin and fiberglass reinforcement. An acrylic finish coat conceals the joint line for a smooth finish.

Internal Support & Load Bearing

To prevent stress on the decorative outer shell, structural support is built beneath the tub:

  • Integrated Stainless Steel Frame: A structural steel frame is resin-bonded directly to the underside of the inner basin.

  • Six Adjustable Leveling Feet: Heavy-duty leveling legs adjust to accommodate uneven floors while transferring the entire load—water and occupant—directly to the floor.

Plumbing & Subfloor Drain Flexibility

  • Built-in 4" to 5" Sub-Tub Gap: A hollow cavity between the inner basin and floor allows drain lines to be redirected laterally without cutting new holes into the subfloor.

  • 30-Inch Code Allowance: Plumbing codes permit up to a 30-inch hard-piped diversion from the tub drain center to the center of the P-trap.

  • Hard-Piped Mandatory Installation: Redirected plumbing must be rigid PVC/ABS pipe. Flexible corrugated piping violates building codes because the ridges trap water, creating severe mold and bacteria hazards over time.

SanSiro Freestanding Bathtubs

Unmatched Thermal Efficiency & Master Craftsmanship

Discover the SanSiro and CoreAcryl bathtub collections, engineered for exceptional heat retention, deep-soak comfort, and enduring structural rigidity. Whether your bathroom design calls for clean modern silhouettes or timeless vintage and classic styling, each bathtub is master-built to serve as an elegant, lasting centerpiece. Every shell utilizes high-grade, scratch- and bacteria-resistant acrylic that withstands daily use while maintaining a smooth, non-porous finish.

Advanced CoreAcryl & Insulation Technology

To eliminate cold bathwater and provide a solid, premium feel underfoot, SanSiro bathtubs incorporate industry-leading thermal barriers:

  • Dense Foam Double-Wall Insulation: High-density foam insulation is applied directly between the inner and outer cavity walls of our reinforced acrylic models. This double-wall barrier locks in heat, allowing for extended, peaceful soaks without constant hot water refills.

  • CoreAcryl Double-Skinned Shells: CoreAcryl models feature a 3/4-inch thick double-skinned acrylic wall bonded with heavy-duty resin and fiberglass, layered alongside an integrated aluminum foil thermal barrier for maximum strength and heat retention.
